Whether you are a beginner or professional, come enjoy unique class experience at Fired Up Pottery Studio!

In some classes we will be building our own creations out of clay, in some we will be glazing or decorating.

How is glazing different from painting?

Painting will add color to your ceramic piece, and it can be easier to get the exact look you want with paints without worrying the color will change in the kiln. You can add a clear glossy coat over paint to make it more durable and last longer.

Glaze goes on like paint, but glazes require the piece to go back into the kiln to be fired again. At high temperatures glazes can go through some amazing transformations. They can make your creation shiny and food-safe if that’s what you wish!

Can you paint and glaze the same piece? Well, yes, but not in that order. The kiln gets to very high temperatures- over 1,000 degrees at minimum. Paint will disappear in that heat! Glaze is meant to go back in the kiln for a second firing. Once a piece is glazed, if you wish to add paint, you absolutely can! Just be mindful that paint over glaze will probably not be food safe anymore.

About Us

Newly opened Fired Up Pottery Studio exists because many people want to play with clay, and we need more opportunities to do so!

Maybe you loved ceramics in high school, maybe you were lucky enough to take a course or two for fun in college. Then, lacking the proper space or equipment, you were never able to get back to it?

Maybe you’ve never tried it before, and you have always wanted to try? You’re always willing to try something new?

Fired Up is a place to come and build, paint, glaze, and generally get messy. You don’t have to be a prolific artist to come and have fun!

Plus, getting messy at a studio is WAY more fun than getting messy at home!
